Her Excellency hosted a reception for the Commonwealth Day Council of NSW, with special guest Mr Kamalesh Sharma, Commonwealth Secretary-General at NSW Government House on Tuesday 12 July 2011.
The Commonwealth Day Council recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Friends of the Commonwealth with the Commonwealth Foundation and is proud to be the selected as the Australian Partner representative to promote the work of the 'Friends' in Australia.
An official announcement of the Friends of the Commonwealth was made at the reception with Her Excellency and the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Mr Sharma.
Friends of the Commonwealth is about a group of ordinary people joining together to promote and build a proactive Commonwealth community – one of the goals of the Commonwealth Day Council.
The Council will work in collaboration with the Commonwealth Foundation, Commonwealth Secretariat and other like minded individuals, companies and associations to help promote 'Friends' and explore mutually beneficial partnerships working towards to "reinvigorating" the Commonwealth in Australia.
The event was sponsored by Southern Highlands Wines.
